Boulder Oaks Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Oliverius, Boulder Oaks Teacher of the Year

(Mrs. Oliverius, front row, 3rd from the left)

Mrs. Oliverius, also lovingly known as Mrs. O, has been a teacher for 30 years.  During her teaching career she has taught special needs students, EL students, GATE students and 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th grades.  Besides having multiple degrees such as a BA and MA multiple subject credentials, and a Learning Handicap Credential, Mrs. O is the type of teacher that brings a lot to the table when meeting with her peers during team meetings.  Working as part of a Professional Learning Community is very important to her.  Because of her Special Ed background, Mrs. O is interested in topics concerning differentiated instruction and learning strategies to help all students be successful regardless of their current level.

For approximately 10 years Mrs. O has dedicated her time before school, during lunch, and after school to cultivate the student’s interest in horticulture by developing garden areas around the school.  The gardens are used as an instructional strategy to teach science, math, social studies through learning about local plants and the type of plants grown by Native Americans, as well as the development of language arts skills, and art. Mrs. O has applied for and has been awarded several grants to continue the garden projects.

Classified Employee of the Year

The Boulder Oaks staff is proud to announce this year's Classified Employee of the Year, Mrs. Laura Garbani (2nd person from the left, next to Mrs. Miller).

Mrs. Garbani has been an employee in the AUSD for the past 6 years.  During this time, she has worked with students grades 1 - 5 in general and special education classrooms at Boulder Oaks.  During her years of service Laura has demonstrated exceptional aptitude in her work performance through her commitment to the students she works with, her participation in collaboration meetings with teachers and other instructional aides, and her willingness to increase her skills by learning teaching strategies.  Laura's willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty is evidenced in her initiative to find articles on specific special education topics in order to better understand and better service our students.
